Restaurants Koh Tao offers an excellent selection of cosy restaurants. Below we have reviewed one of the best on the island. We give it our warmest recommendations and urge you to give it a go, if you are in the neighbourhood or happen to walk by.
El Toro
Owned by Khun Rojana, this restaurant with it's two names, is one of Koh Tao's best places to have a meal. The menu is extremely varied and offers excellent crispy Italian style pizza, fine thai cuisine, excellent tex-mex and superb scandinavian dishes (meat, potatoes and tasty sauces) - and best of all: at an affordable price.
What We Had
My friend, who is totally into Mexican, had a Chip'n'Dip to start with. The home made nachos are excellent and you can just keep on eating them. Following that he had Fajitas with Beef. It was served on a hot plate and accompanied by a generous helping of flour tortillas, salsa, sour cream, rice pilaf and of course guacamole. Excellent taste and the portion was generous so he was unable to finish his plate.
His girlfriend totally digs Pizza. "If you are in Thailand - eat Pizza" is her motto. She had an exotic pizza with fried chicken, barbeque sauce, mozzarella cheese and green peppers.
Being a "meat and potatoes girl" myself, I just had to try the Danish dish: Frikadeller. It's kind of like Swedish Meatballs, but a little bit bigger if you know what I mean. It was served with salad, fried potatos and Sauce Bearnaice - which topped off the delicious meal. Absolutely superb.
We shared a nice bottle of red wine with the meal and had a delicious fruitshake each before we said goodbye to the charming Rojana and staff. Hardly unable to walk due to the excessive amounts of food we had eaten, mind you.
